環境:
2007,2010,2013,2016,m365 excel
Environment
Microsoft Excel 2007
Microsoft Excel 2010
Microsoft Excel 2013
Microsoft Excel 2016
Microsoft 365 Excel
Issue
Opening the same .xlsx file shows different behavior depending on the Excel version.
Microsoft 365 Excel: Opens and saves normally.
Excel 2007/2010/2013/2016: Opens the file successfully, but Excel crashes when saving.
Investigation
The workbook contained several images.
In Microsoft 365 Excel, the images displayed correctly.
In Excel 2007/2010/2013/2016, the images did not appear and were shown as
#VALUE!instead.
The cause was that the images had been inserted using the "Place in Cell" feature, which is only supported in Microsoft 365 and Office 2024.
Because older Excel versions do not support this feature, the workbook becomes incompatible. As a result, not only are the images displayed incorrectly, but even saving changes made in unrelated cells causes Excel to crash.
Resolution
The issue is caused by using the "Place in Cell" image feature, which is not compatible with Excel 2007/2010/2013/2016.
To make the workbook compatible with older versions, replace the "Place in Cell" images with standard inserted pictures before distributing the file. After removing or converting those images, the workbook can be opened and saved normally in older versions of Excel.
